Troubling TSA News

I try to make a distinction between individual issues and systemic issues. However, sometimes I find it very difficult to do so.

This first story though? Not so hard. Individual idiot. Still, background checks people?

The next story? Systemic issue. Just because you want me to “respect your authority” and I don’t? No, I am not a terrorist. If I *were* a terrorist, I’d be sweet and light and you’d never look twice at me. At least until the bag I managed to leave in the middle of the hour long line of people went boom.

Here’s a bit of good news. They’re finally killing the color code. Or rather, maybe they’re actually going to move it from orange down to yellow in the DC area? That’d be amusing. No, no, really. They’re getting rid of the useless color code that hasn’t changed in ten years. Seriously, it’s been orange in DC since 2011. Um, yeah, I take that seriously. NOT.

The National Terrorism Advisory System, or NTAS, replaces the color-coded Homeland Security Advisory System (HSAS). This new system will more effectively communicate information about terrorist threats by providing timely, detailed information to the public, government agencies, first responders, airports and other transportation hubs, and the private sector.
