Review: Circus: An Album

Circus: An Album by Linda Granfield

Circus by Linda Granfield hits that strange level of reading that is being called “young adult” these days. Occasionally, it dips more into the child-level than tweens and teens, but for the most part hits the sweet spot of non-
condescension.

It does not gloss over the controversies surrounding the treatment os circus animals, children performers, or the side-show’s exploitation of the mentally and/or physically challenged. I felt all of the topics were deftly if lightly handled.

It’s an excellent over-view book for adult research as well. There were several areas I decided to research further, but this gave me a solid foundation to build from.

I highly recommend it.
