Donor’s Choose Project: Solar Analysis

I’m highlighting projects from Donors Choose. This is Solar Analysis – a request to help fund hands-on science exploration for junior high students in Washington State.

Our school district has faced major budget cuts this past year. Although our district is committed to math and science excellence and to the NASA Explorer School program, science funding is a major issue.

My students need a star theater, an astronomy kit, a Sun-Earth model, 9 hands-on solar structure models, and an astronomy catch ball. The cost of this proposal is $573, which includes shipping for any materials requested and fulfillment.

This project only needs $393. Please help me fund this project or any of the others on the below page to completion!

With Donors Choose, you can give as little or as much as you like to each project. You can pay by credit card or check. Each donor recieves a reciept for tax purposes and a thank you from the teacher once the project has been completed.

If you have five dollars, please click below and help out.

DonorsChoice

Donor’s Choice is a cool charity that lets ordinary people support specific school projects. These projects are everything from getting a copy of the current reading assignment for every kid in the class, to bookshelves, to musical instruments, to computers. You can give as little or as much as you like.

The best part? (Especially for procrastinators.) You can give gift certificates for the program. The recipient gets to choose which project they want to support.

I made a giving page that collects the projects I saw as I was browsing that I’d love to see supported.

Please go take a look and help out. Give what you can. Help kids get the books and supplies they need. Heck, encourage your local youth group, book group, or church to sponsor a project.

Charity: One House At A Time

This group is rebuilding Pearlington, Mississippi in the wake of the Katrina disaster. There are still thousands who are out of a home.

There is no Habitat for Humanity in this local area. They’re looking to raise $2 million to continue the construction of permanent homes for those displaced by the hurricane.

Give ’em a look-see.

Charity Heads Up: Modest Needs

Visit Modest Needs

Modest Needs is an organization dedicated to helping out with the little things, like school books, or dentist bills. They are run by spare change and good wishes. I love the fact that you can adopt requests at will. Such as the single mom who needs to get her college-books, but her scholarship won’t come through in time, or the son’s dentist bill that was fifty dollars higher than expected and therefore out of the budget. Even a small donation can help out. They’ve got a great pledge option which lets you put in a PayPal pledge of as little as $0.25 a day (7.50/month). You’d be surprised how little bits of money can add up. Give them a look and see what you think. It’s a great way to pay forward some of the kindnesses in your life.
